Inside the THIMUN Directors’ Workshop
By Vriddhi Shah
MUN Expert Advisor Dr. Peterson’s journey with Model UN began unexpectedly, but his curiosity soon turned into a lifelong commitment to shaping young minds. At this year’s THIMUN workshop for MUN Directors, he focused on helping teachers inspire students beyond formal debate – fostering empathy, equality, and collaboration. More than just a training, it reflected his belief that MUN is about progress over perfection and the shared effort to create a more thoughtful, united world.
Here are some of the MUN Directors’ reflections:
Reflection 1
One director shared that the workshop changed how they saw MUN altogether. They realised that it’s not about training students to give the perfect speech but about instilling more important values: helping them understand what drives another delegate’s view.

Reflection 2
Another participant, new to MUN, called the experience eye-opening. Understanding the structure behind a conference made them realise how much intention goes into every motion and clause. They left eager to pass that clarity on to their students.
Reflection 3
A first-time advisor found the hands-on debate simulation to be the turning point. Writing and negotiating resolutions themselves showed how collaboration matters just as much as confidence behind a podium.

The workshop, in every sense, embodied Dr. Peterson’s idea that the true essence of MUN lies in nurturing empathy over eloquence.
